When is the 23/24 Champions League Draw

The draw for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League 2023/2024 will take place on Thursday 31st of August 2023 in Monaco. UEFA like to turn these events into ceremonies which is scheduled to begin at 1700 hours UK time.

Following a one-year disappointing absence from the competition, during which Eric Ten Hag’s team reached the Quarter-final stage of the Europa League, Manchester United is eagerly anticipating a return to the prestigious competition in European football tournaments.

When are the Champions League matchdays

The first matchday of this season’s group stages is scheduled to take place on the 19th and 20th of September.

Matchday 1: 19/20 September 2023
Matchday 2: 3/4 October 2023
Matchday 3: 24/25 October 2023
Matchday 4: 7/8 November 2023
Matchday 5: 28/29 November 2023
Matchday 6: 12/13 December 2023
Round of 16: 13/14/20/21 February and 5/6/12/13 March 2024
Quarter-finals: 9/10 and 16/17 April 2024
Semi-finals: 30 April/1 May and 7/8 May 2024
Final: 1 June 2024

The final will take place at Wembley stadium, London for a record third time in the UEFA Champions League era after hosting the event in 2011 and 2013.

How does the draw work

There is 32 teams in the draw split into 4 pots, teams are allocated a pot by seeding. Man Utd are seeded in pot 2 of the draw. Additionally they will face one of 7 teams in pot 1 minus Manchester City who United are unable to face at this stage. Pot 1 consists of Manchester City (England), Sevilla (Spain), Barcelona (Spain), Napoli (Italy), Bayern Munich (Germany), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Benfica (Portugal) and Feyenoord (Netherlands).

Pot 2 who United are unable to play any team from due to being in this pot will consist of Real Madrid (Spain), Manchester United (England), Inter Milan (Italy), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Atletico Madrid (Spain), RB Leipzig (Germany), Porto (Portugal) and Arsenal (England).

Pot 3 and 4 are a lot more uncertain due to teams still currently taking part in the play off stages at this time. We know the following teams have qualified and will be placed in either pot 3 or 4. Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine), RB Salzburg (Austria), AC Milan (Italy), Lazio (Italy),Red Star Belgrade (Serbia), Newcastle United (England), Real Sociedad (Spain), Celtic (Scotland), Union Berlin (Germany) and Lens (France).

Last of the participants in the draw will consist of the winners of the qualifying play off rounds which consists of.
